2006 Colorado River Fair...

BIt'd been awhile since we'd been to the Colorado River Fair, but apparently there seems to be a mysterious connection between us and the theme 'Barn In The USA' (which I think was originally a Bruce Springsteen song but he must've changed it). I'm not really sure how we fit in, anyhow, but we did, thanks to CEO Kenny Kalian, a loco, er, local boy from the heart o' Blythe. And in retrospect, it's a miracle that, seeing as how we  was on the roster for this time,  that he's still got the job. Nonetheless,  Mr. Kalian has been pulling out all stops at the fairgrounds in the past few years and the early gate stats indicate that this year  may have been the best yet- it's not official, but Jake and I counted each and every person who came  to the fair this year and we think they broke all sorts of records (but we did count Jake and I twice or more a day).   The only thing we're concerned about though is that it's called the Colorado River Fair and we have yet to see a river. Probably ain't one, but it sounds good. Thanks to Kenny, Jeri (shoulda been MY wife), and the Colorado River Fair Board Of Directors!

'Colorado River Fair Class Of 2006'...

Jake, Jeri, Curly, Big Cheese Kenny Kalian and Curly's new wife Mrs. Curly Bill

Some of our very best industry performing friends: Mary Lee, Steve Russell and Ernie G. Oh, that's me on the horse....

Backstage Sneak Peek:

Yep, you don't stand a chance of seeing anything like this on the Universal Studios Backlot Tour- ain't the real Jake a thing of beauty!

Finally, some firefighting folks who know their hot stuff. I have been trying to get an answer for several years as to the question "at what temperature would  a horse burst into flames". They gave me an estimate (it  can vary depending on how much salsa he's eaten, if he smokes, and if it's the Marlboro Man's horse), of about 135 degrees, which seems more right than the firefellar in Texas who told me the correct answer was 5000 degrees. WRONGGG! Anyhow, we came awful close to combustin' (that's firefolks jargon) while takin' our pictures with these hotties in the Riverside County Fire Department and Snack Bar (just seein' if you was paying attention).

Jake is a master at tracking and seeing stuff- here he surveys the area and tries to figure where everybody is (I couldn't bear to tell him it was Tuesday, the fair was over until next year)...

Here we have the Teater Family- the only family that talked to us the whole time we was there. We think they was up to something, but they outnumbered Jake and I so we went went along with it until we could make a break for it. We headed for the river, but couldn't find it so we went to Foster's Freeze and there they was again. It seems the Teaters know all the good  fine dining establishments!
Special thanks to the nice folks at Best Value Inn!
